Difference between Deco Melts and Chocolate

We see several questions about the difference between Deco Melts and Chocolate. The texture of Deco Melts is very similar to chocolate and the flavour of FunCakes Deco Melts is similar to creamy white chocolate. The main ingredients of Deco Melts are sugar and oil. Sugar provides sweetness in the product, while oil makes the Deco Melts melt when heated. As Deco Melts do not contain cocoa, they are not chocolate. An advantage of this is that you don't need to temper the Deco Melts during melting as with chocolate. Easier to melt and to work with!

How do you melt Deco Melts?

You can melt the Deco Melts in two different ways. Melting in the microwave or au-bain marie. For the microwave, melt the required amount in a bowl at 500 W maximum. Then stir the Deco Melts well every 15-20 seconds. Stop heating once the Deco Melts are almost completely melted, small pieces will still be visible. Keep stirring until the Deco Melts are smoothly melted and process the amount as desired.

After decorating, let your beautiful creation harden in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes. Having so much fun decorating that your Deco Melts are already starting to harden? Then you can always reheat the Deco Melts!

Diluting Deco Melts

Deco Melts do not melt as well as chocolate, due to the lack of cocoa butter in the product. The Melts remain slightly thicker than chocolate. So the constance may be thicker than your preference. But not to worry, you can easily dilute Deco Melts! There are three different methods for this:

Cocoa Butter Drops

FunCakes Cocoa Butter Drops are made from 100% pure cocoa butter and are 100% plant-based. These Cocoa Butter Drops are perfect at high temperatures and can be used well to dilute Deco Melts. Add a small amount to the Deco Melts to dilute them until you are happy with the constance!

Cocoa Butter Powder

Cocoa butter comes in different forms and also in powder form called Mycryo. With cocoa butter powder, you can easily dilute the Deco Melts, as the powder dissolves quickly and does not change the texture of the Deco Melts. Just like with the other methods, make sure you always add small amounts to preserve the structure of the Deco Melts!

Adding oil

Because there is already oil in Deco Melts, you can add oil to dilute the Deco Melts. For this, we recommend a form of vegetable oil. Adding a lot of oil can change the texture of the Deco Melts. Therefore, do not add more than half a teaspoon at a time so that the Deco Melts do not run off your creation but solidify.

How do you colour Deco Melts?

To colour your Deco Melts, you need oil-based colouring. Water-based colourants will make the Deco Melts unusable and therefore won't work!

To colour the FunCakes Deco Melts, melt the Deco Melts . Use a toothpick or the tip of a knife, add small amounts of the oil-based colouring. Then mix with a spoon or spatula until the colouring is well mixed. Keep adding the oil-based colouring until you are satisfied.
