Cake Smash: Cookie Cake with Candy by Brenda Kookt

Aug. 28th, 2019

Brenda from 'Brenda Kookt' made this delicious cookie-cake especially for her Daughter Jill's 1st birthday. In this blog, she explains how easy it is to make a cookie cake and she also gives a couple of fun tips! Read the blog below and check out the recipe to see how you can make this amazing cookie-cake yourself.

This cookie-cake has been on my to-bake list for a long time. And finally I can cross it off. As you can see I made it for a very special birthday.

It's our Jill's birthday today, she turns one year old. Hurray! Time is flying by and our little girl is developing so quickly. In a year's time she went from a sweet baby to an amazing toddler. Making my daughters birthday cake myself has become a tradition. For Fem's first birthday I made a disco-drip-cake, for her second birthday I made an Unicorn Cake and last year a Frozen Cake.

Cookie cake with candy

This cookie-cake seemed perfect for Jill's first birthday. It may seem complicated, but it's super simple to make. You don't need a special baking pan or anything to make it. You can cut the cookie dough into the desired number and decorated it when it's cooled off using a cream. Afterwards, you can decorate it with whatever you want. Macarons, candy, chocolate, sprinkles. You name it!

Check out the recipe for the cookie-cake with candy here!

A few fun tips:

  • Via the website, you can download and print a mold for the numbers.
  • Instead of a base made of cookiedough, you can also bake a sponge cake, the Wilton Cake Pan Countless Celebrations is perfect for this. You can use it to make all numbers and letters. I’ve also used this for the cake that we ate on Jill’s birthday.

Cakesmash

I did a cakesmash with Fem when she turned one years old, that’s why it seemed fun to also do that with Jill. Fun for the photo books, and a fun photo as an invitation to her birthday. The cookie-cake with Enchanted Cream seemed very suitable for this. I just missed one little thing..

.. the candy which I used to decorate the cookie-cake aren’t particularly suitable for an almost 1-year-old. Oops! For the cakesmash I quickly took off the candies and decorated the cookie-cake using pink Enchanted Cream (I coloured it using the FunCakes Edible FunColours Gel – Pink).
