Making bread dough

Before getting started on making your own bread, we’re going to explain how to make your own dough. To make your own bread, you’ll need flour, salt, instant yeast and a bit of water. Deleukstetaartenshop has al kinds of new products in our range which makes making your own bread dough simple. For example, we have wheat flour (for making white bread), whole-wheat flour (for making whole-wheat bread), deluxe pastry flour (for making cookies, muffins, etc. from scratch), instant yeast and bread improver.

With our new products, it’s even easier to bake your own bread, because you can easily follow the instructions on the packaging and be inspired by one of our bread recipes. The proportions for the salt, instant yeast and water are on the instructions which you can find on the packaging. We advise you to add our bread improver while baking, so that your bread stays fresh for even longer.

5x tips for baking simple and healthy bread

Do you want to easily make bread yourself and are you looking for something that is simple to make, a conscious choice and tastes good? Below we’ll give you five tips for making your own delicious and conscious bread.

 1. Try out different things; train yourself to become an experienced bread baker!

This is by far the most important tip on the list. The people who have baked bread before, know that baking bread takes time and discipline. Making good dough, letting it rest and rise with a proofing basket and finding the right proportions of the ingredients is a small job, but believe us it gets a lot easier when you use one of our bread recipes as a guideline and the instructions from the different products in our range. Therefore, our advice is to try different things. You can make it as crazy as you want with bread, think about making bread for on the barbecue or for a snack or a sweet snack to enjoy while drinking coffee. Make different variations, that way you can get better at baking bread.

2. Bread improver

To keep your bread as fresh as possible, you can keep the bread in a sealed bag, bread bin, underneath a clean towel or in a paper bag (to preserve a crispy crust). Bakers also always use bread improvers, this improves the quality of the bread because its easier to process and this makes the bread nice and light on the inside and crispy on the outside. We advise to add the bread improver while baking, so that the bread stays fresh for even longer.

3. Test the quality of your dough

Before processing your dough, you can easily test if the quality of the dough is right. You can test it by pulling out a small ball of the dough between your fingers. If a thin (almost) see through fleece arises, then your dough is just right. If the piece of dough breaks or if there’s lumps in it, you’ll have to knead the dough some more. Fill your bread pan after you’ve tested the dough and as soon as you know your dough is ready to be baked.

4. Brush your sweet rolls with egg for an extra finishing touch

You don’t necessarily have to brush your bread, because the crust should already be thick and crispy because of the bread improver and high temperature of baking. But, if you’re planning to make sweet rolls, you can brush the rolls with some egg, this adds an extra shine to the crust of your bread. This is ideal for making a Brioche bread.

5. Fill your bread and make it extra nutritious

You can vary as much as you want while baking bread, for example are you looking for a deliciously conscious bread recipe, consider adding pieces of vegetables for a filled savory bread or pieces of fruit to make the bread sweeter. You can fill the inside with nuts, sunflower seeds, (blue) poppy seed, walnuts, sesame seed, hazelnuts or silvered almonds to give your bread an extra touch and make it even more nutritious.
